1. The shape of the components;

We all know that the carbon cloth is soft and can be bent and wound. Therefore, for concrete components with unusual shapes, the carbon plate obviously is not suitable because the carbon plate is hard and cannot be bent and twisted. So the carbon plate  is mostly used at the bottom of the bridge which is a stable area.

2. According to the tensile strength required for the reinforcement;

For example, in the calculation of reinforced concrete elements, it is necessary to paste more than 4 layers of carbon cloth (Nanjing Mankate carbon cloth has a tensile strength of 3,800 MPA). In this case, it is not recommended to use carbon cloth. Because with the superimposition of carbon cloth, its tensile strength will have a deteriorating condition. So if there are more than 4 layers, carbon plates are recommended.

The advantages and disadvantages of carbon plate and carbon cloth:

1. Carbon plate is more suitable for the prestressed reinforcement, and can fully exert the high strength of carbon fiber;

2. Convenient construction; construction quality is easy to guarantee;

3. Carbon plate is easier to keep fiber straight than carbon cloth, which is more conducive to play the role of carbon fiber;

4. A layer of thick plate with 1.2mm is equivalent to 5 layers of carbon cloth;

5. Carbon plate is more suitable for the reinforcement of brick-concrete structure wall than carbon cloth;

6 The use of carbon fiber-glass fiber mixing panels can increase the ductility of reinforced concrete structures and can reduce the cost of carbon panels.
